When can a baby start swimming?
8 October 2026

Babies can join a swimming course from about 3–4 months of age, once they can hold their head up well. Here is how to decide and what baby swimming lessons at Superbaby in Kramáre, Bratislava look like.
Parents often ask us when the right time to start swimming is. There is no single date that suits every child – what matters most is whether the baby is physically ready. Here is what to look for.
From about 3–4 months
Babies can join a swimming course from about 3 to 4 months of age. The basic condition is that the baby has strong enough neck muscles and can hold its head up on its own. Water is a natural environment for babies – it surrounded them for nine months before birth – and at this age most babies accept it without fear.
When it is better to wait
If you are not sure, we recommend waiting until 6 months. At this age the immune system is stronger and the baby regulates body temperature better. Every child is different, though – if in doubt, talk to your paediatrician or give us a call and we will be happy to advise you.
What baby swimming lessons at Superbaby look like
- Babies (0–2 years) always swim with one parent; children aged 3 to 6 attend pre-swimming lessons with an instructor.
- There are at most 4 children in a group, so the instructor can give attention to every baby.
- The water is 31–34 °C and slightly salty thanks to a salt chlorinator; the pool is 120–125 cm deep.
- A lesson lasts 30–40 minutes depending on the child's age, followed by a Finnish sauna at a temperature adapted to children.
- The course runs for two months: 8 weekly lessons for €185.
Courses run in two-month cycles: September–October, November–December, January–February, March–April and May–June. Current lesson times for each age group are in the schedule.
